Among these, centralized cloud computing and Edge computing are essential for managing decentralized and distributed data processing resources. This integration is necessary to meet essential requirements such as low latency and high throughput.

Rai Way will enable businesses to work at the Edge by bringing data processing and storage closer to the customer’s location through a distributed presence across the territory.

We are planning a nationwide and carrier-neutral network of high-quality Hyperscale Data Centers and Edge Data Centers, distributed and interconnected, that provide Data Center Colocation services. This service will enable the Computing Continuum with centralized storage and ultra-low latencies (below 10 ms) at regional edges.

Our state-of-the-art facilities will exploit 100% renewable energy, ensuring optimal security, high reliability (availability), and offering scalability and customization of solutions.

We are developing 19 Data Centers divided between Edge Data Centers, designed to meet proximity and low latency needs, and larger data centers designed for Hyperscaler operators, ensuring infrastructures scalability and rapid implementation of highly customized solutions.

Edge Data Center – Rai Way’s Data Center Infrastructure

Edge Data Centers is the network of data centers that Rai Way is developing in line with its 2020-2023 Business Plan, implementing the managed infrastructures expansion. The combination of the two projects – Hyperscale and Edge Data Centers, managed by a neutral operator – currently represents a unique feature in the national landscape and adds value to the service.

Rai Way, a leader in broadcasting and communication network infrastructure and services in Italy, boasts a wealth of expertise, technological assets, and specialized resources.

As the successor of the pioneers of broadcasting in Italy, Rai Way is committed to ensuring the distribution and transmission of television and radio content for public broadcasting, both in Italy and abroad. Furthermore, it is dedicated to providing maximum security, reliability, and service quality to all its customers.

Rai Way’s Edge data centers are designed to be interconnected through Rai Way’s proprietary backbone spanning over 5,000 km. The infrastructure, aimed at leveraging the advantages of new platforms and services, such as our Content Delivery Network, will meet the needs of linear and high-definition streaming.

Rai Way among the Founders of IDA – Italian Datacenter Association

We firmly believe in the value of our project and the prospects it offers in the context of the ongoing digital transition. We are honored to be a Founding Member of the Italian Datacenter Association (IDA), the first Italian organization devoted to data center builders and operators, as a sign of our commitment to and support for this cause. This association actively works towards recognizing the strategic role that Data Center infrastructures play in the competitiveness of the Italian digital ecosystem and for the development of a strong and efficient Data Center industry in Italy.

In collaboration with IDA, we also focus on the issues of education and environmental sustainability. We believe it’s crucial to change the way we think about the environment into a collective effort that benefits everyone in the industry.

IDA also adheres to the CNDCP Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, committing along with other operators and industry associations to ensure that data centers become an integral part of Europe’s sustainable future by making their activities “Carbon Neutral” by 2030.
